A boom in physical fitness activities was positive news for sporting goods manufacturers.

Coca-Cola signed a contract to bottle in China, while Pepsi-Cola did likewise in the U.S.S.R.

98% of U.S. households had at least one television set.

2,067 U.S. soft drink bottling plants were in operation.

Tyco released this attractive HO scale model railroad refrigerator car in 1978.  The "Since 1876" logo and "Hires to You!" slogans likely struck nostalgic early 1950s chords with baby boomer model railroad enthusiasts.
